What a wonderful review! And thank you for sharing your own experiences with us 😊 Pretty in Pink is by far my favorite Molly Ringwald movie. Her portrayal of Andie was sympathetic and powerful. I agree about the music too -- such a great soundtrack! πŸ’œ

This movie came out when I was in 6th grade! It was huge, I have probably seen it so many times I should be embarrassed. In the book, Andie ends up with Ducky. I always felt it was one of those movies where the girl has to pick between two guys, neither a good match for her. Like Reality Bites. I always wished she would have chosen to stay single and not settle.

It's a lovely, fun film worth many, many repeated viewings, in my opinion. Yes, the original movie ending too had Andie and Duckie ending up together, but test audiences booed it according to Wikipedia:

Such an ending would also have sent a classist, bigoted message that you should stay with "your own kind," which is not an American ideal.

For me "Pretty in Pink" is a kind of cinderella story, right down to the heroine making her own dress from scraps as in the Disney original, and I see it as a happy ending for Andie to end up with Blane, a guy who is a good person and someone she finds extremely attractive:
